Connections to diverse businesses continue to increase

Four men in suits stand in a group at a Supplier Diversity event.

From the Frozen Tundra of Green Bay, WI to sunny San Antonio, TX, Michels is on a quest to find qualified subcontractors, suppliers and professional services to supplement the wide range of work we self-perform.

Our Supplier Diversity team specifically seeks out small, disadvantaged, veteran, women, indigenous and/or minority owned businesses to build an in-house database that we can tap into during the bidding process. Focusing on inclusion helps small businesses grow, invests in local communities and strengthens the entire construction industry’s supply chain. It also helps our customers meet or exceed their goals for diverse business participation.

Over the past three years, the number of diverse companies in our database has increased by 625%, reaching a total of 1,450 partners and allowing us to streamline our approach to sourcing. The increase can be attributed to regular interactions with organizations that facilitate ongoing connections with diverse businesses, including the North Central Minority Supplier Development Council, National Association of Minority Contractors, Indigenous Business Group, and Women’s Business Development Center, as well as engagement in diversity-focused events sponsored by our customers.

Additionally, by maintaining real-time data, we can track certifications, identify any gaps in scope or geography, and pursue targeted capacity-building efforts. With our ever-increasing pool of strategic partners, Michels is poised to perform our best work, wherever a project takes us.
