Sometimes it takes a force of nature to harness a force of nature.
From engineering to execution, we have the in-house expertise to provide turnkey solutions for many major scopes of work on offshore wind energy projects. Thanks to our impressive pool of experienced people, a word-class fleet of equipment for land and sea, and the pioneering spirit that has made Michels a major contractor in emerging markets for more than six decades, we can perform many major scopes of work on these critical energy transition projects.
Our contributions extend from offshore to landfall to onshore scopes of work:
Offshore — We construct the wind turbine generator supports, including subsea structures. In addition to dredging and ballast placement, our marine team surveys and executes the necessary trenching before laying and burying the protected water cables.
Landfall — Using Direct Pipe, HDD or microtunneling techniques, we trenchlessly pull the cable to connect land and sea components. Seawall construction, landing foundations, entry shafts and work pads are provided as needed in conjunction with high-density polyethylene (HDPE) pipe fusing.
Onshore — Our land-based solutions include port construction, underground transmission cable system and duct bank installations, construction of AC substations and DC converter stations with the requisite wiring, and above-ground or below-ground transmission and distribution wires to connect with the existing electrical grid.
We have completed 63 marine horizontal directional drillings (HDDs) and 48 landfalls in six countries to date. Our work on Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind and South Fork Wind exemplifies the breadth of our capabilities. These projects, alongside many others, prove we are not just blowing hot air when we say We Do That … & More.
