Michels received honorable mention in Trenchless Technology magazine’s 2018 Project of the Year competition for the North Area Interceptor Phase 9 project. The project consisted of rehabilitating high-capacity regional sanitary sewer facilities in the St. Paul-Minneapolis metropolitan area.
Michels installed cured-in-place pipe (CIPP) liners to rehabilitate 3,866 feet of 96-inch (8-foot) diameter and 90 feet of 72-inch diameter pipe. The sanitary sewer serves all northwestern suburbs.
The North Area Interceptor Phase 9 project included construction of a 5,100-foot temporary conveyance system to maintain wastewater services throughout the project. The system was designed to convey an average daily flow of 25,000 gallons per minute of effluent and a peak flow of 52,000 gallons per minute.
