Battery Cell Manufacturing Plant
Michels Construction, Inc. installed more than 2,000 drilled shafts as deep foundations to support a new multi-million square foot battery cell manufacturing plant. The drilled shafts ranged from 3 to 6 feet in diameter at depths of up to 40 feet. All drilled shafts were rock socketed directly into sandstone bedrock. Drill rigs were fitted with core barrels, rock augers, clean-out buckets, and other necessary drilling tools. About 9,500 cubic yards of drilled shaft concrete was furnished and placed via the end-dump method.
Michels supported the project with up to three drill rig crews, working six days a week, 10 hours a day, to maintain an aggressive schedule. The project was delivered on schedule, with with zero safety or quality incidents.
