Michels Canada is partnering with Coastal GasLink (CGL) and other prime contractors to turn dimes into dollars to support local communities as part of CGL’s Extraordinary Legacy Initiative. All prime contractors along the project’s 670-kilometre route in northern British Columbia have set up bottle recycling bins in lodges to encourage workers to recycle bottles to donate to a local organization. When matched by CGL’s Employee Giving program, Build Strong, the bottle donation program across the project route has raised more than $275,000 since the program began in May.
In January, Michels Canada and CGL representatives presented non-profit Lake District Family Enhancement Society with an $11,28 donation collected on Section 6, the section being by Michels Canada. Section 6 is a 65-kilometre spread of 48-inch natural gas pipeline running south of the communities of Burns Lake and Houston in B.C’s Lakes District.
The donation supports the organization’s program to transport food to community residents in need. The program delivers dry goods, fruits, vegetables, starches and other essential items that may have otherwise gone to a landfill. With geographic area to half the size of Vancouver Island, the cost and time in delivering food to the community members quickly adds up.
