Copper Valley FTTH

Michels Underground Cable, Inc. played a key role in expanding high-speed internet access to the Copper River Valley in Alaska by building 23 miles of transport fiber from Glennallen to Nelchina. The project also included 285 fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) connections and 7 miles of fiber installation in the remote Mentasta region, located 100 miles northeast of Glennallen. The team overcame challenging conditions, including permafrost, swampy ground and rock, using a range of specialized equipment such as bulldozers, plows and excavators to complete the work.

This project was recognized by the Greater Copper Valley Chamber of Commerce, which presented Michels with the 2024 Community Support Award. The award highlights the positive impact of the state-of-the-art fiber optic network, which has significantly improved communication and created new economic opportunities for the region’s residents and businesses.

Michels has been partnering with Copper Valley Telecom since 2007, working to enhance high-speed communications across the Copper River Valley and support the community’s growth.
