Cavalry Solar & Battery Energy Storage System
Michels Power, Inc. completed the construction of a 45 MW/180 MWh-rated battery energy storage system (BESS) at the Cavalry Solar plant in Indiana. This state-of-the-art facility is designed to store renewable energy and release it during peak demand or when the grid faces disruptions. The BESS helps ensure a stable power supply by acting as a backup during utility failures, improving resilience for the surrounding community. The system includes 14 battery/inverter units, each with a capacity of 16.1 MWh, and was carefully installed using a 500-ton crane to position the batteries and inverters weighing up to 100,000 pounds.
This project plays a critical role in supporting the local energy infrastructure by enhancing the availability of clean, renewable power. By storing solar energy, it helps reduce reliance on traditional grid power, especially during high-demand periods.
