The Project Manager is responsible for developing plans to achieve project milestones and to minimize costs for projects or components of projects valued less than $50 – $100 million.  The Project Manager will play a crucial role in planning, executing, and delivering projects within scope, budget, and schedule. This position requires exceptional leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills to manage cross-functional teams and ensure project success. The position will be based out of our Nisku South office located in Alberta or a field office in Edmonton.
 
RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain and promote a strong safety culture for all employees, vendors, and customers and follow all safety policies, procedures, and regulations. Identify and communicate workplace hazards and correct or seek assistance in correcting unsafe actions or conditions.
  • Manage all phases of construction projects, from inception to completion, ensuring adherence to project objectives, budget, and schedule.
  • Develop comprehensive project plans, including scope, schedule, budget, resource allocation, and risk assessment.
  • Collaborate with project stakeholders to define project requirements, goals, and deliverables.
  • Lead and motivate cross-functional project teams, providing clear direction, support, and guidance.
  • Monitor and track project progress, identifying potential risks and implementing mitigation strategies.
  • Manage project budgets, expenses, and cost control measures to ensure financial objectives are met.
  • Liaise with clients, architects, engineers, subcontractors, and suppliers to foster effective communication and collaboration.
  • Oversee procurement activities, including bid analysis, vendor selection, and contract negotiations.
  • Prepare and present project status reports to senior management and stakeholders.
  • Facilitate problem-solving and conflict resolution to address project challenges promptly.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance project processes and outcomes.
  • Conduct post-project evaluations to analyze successes, challenges, and lessons learned.
  • Other duties as required.
  • REQUIREMENTS

  • Engineering degree or equivalent with 8-12 years in large construction projects.
  • Proven track record of successfully managing construction projects ranging from $10 million to $50 million+.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Must possess a valid driver license for the type(s) of vehicles which may be driven, and an acceptable driving record as determined by Michels Review Team.
  • DESIRED SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS

  • Strong knowledge of construction processes, methodologies, and industry best practices. Expertise in fields such as civil sewer construction and microtunneling construction technology is an asset.
  • Strong negotiation and contract management skills
  • Financial acumen and experience in project budgeting and cost control
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines
  • Detail-oriented mindset with a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and the capacity to make quick decisions in a fast-paced construction environment.
