Project Spotlights: Earth, Air & Water

Several Direct Pipe machines operate on a jobsite.

Digging deep into the ground for foundations and civil construction work, leveraging trenchless techniques to harness the power of the wind, engineering the means to protect marine environments—We Do That … & More.

These recent high-profile projects exemplify our comprehensive capabilities as well as the variety of industries we support.

Carlson Creek Switchyard

This essential facility for northwestern Indiana’s electrical infrastructure serves as a point of interconnection between solar generation and a battery energy storage system (BESS) as well as a junction with different regional and national power grids to provide greater control, stability, and safety of the local grid.

Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind

As the largest wind project in the United States, the Coastal Viriginia Offshore Wind will generate 2,500 to 3,000 MW of renewable energy, enough to power up to 660,000 homes. A total of nine Direct Pipe installations were performed to bring power from an offshore generation facility onto land.

Illinois Beach State Park Shoreline Stabilization

In addition to building 24 offshore breakwaters to preserve the last remaining natural shoreline in the state, the project aided marine life by the introduction of eco-blocks planted with aquatic species and included 10 tern nests to promote a robust population of these endangered seabirds.

The above projects were completed by Michels Power, Inc., Michels Trenchless, Inc. and Michels Construction, Inc.—all members of the Michels Family of Companies, united by shared Core Values, a commitment to safety and a world-class reputation for quality.
