Missouri River Intake Microtunneling
Michels Trenchless, Inc. used microtunneling to construct 1,600 feet of a 72-inch-diameter tunnel to connect an existing wet well and shaft on the riverbank to a screen structure foundation in the river.
Michels Construction, Inc. constructed a sheetpile cofferdam in the Missouri River and a secant pile shaft on land to support the project. The team also installed a concrete liner in an existing 42-foot diameter-by-65-foot-deep shaft. Michels Construction’s dive and marine support team were engaged throughout the project.
The Missouri River Intake is part of the bigger Red River Valley Water Supply Project taking water from the Missouri River and piping it across North Dakota to be stored in the Lake Agassiz Reservoir.
